Qualifying Information
* Date of Birth Note: You will automatically be disqualified if you:
  • Are under 20 years of age on Sep 8, 2013
  • Turn 30 years old before Sep 8, 2013, unless you have active military service to qualify for a maximum age extension.
* Citizenship Indicate if you will be a citizen of the United States on Sep 8, 2013

Note: A "no" is an automatic disqualification.

* Court Record Indicate whether you have been convicted of a felony.

Note: A felony conviction is an automatic disqualification.

* Military Service Indicate whether you have served active military service.
Personal Identification
* Social Security Number Enter your social security number: 3 digits, 2 digits, 4 digits.
* Re-enter SSN Re-enter your social security number, as defined above.
* First Name Enter your first name.
Middle Name If applicable, enter your full middle name. Do not enter only an initial.
* Last Name Enter your last name. For hyphenated names, enter the hyphen between the names. If you have a suffix, such as Jr. or III, put a space between your last name and the suffix.
E-mail Address Enter your E-mail address.
Re-enter E-mail Address Re-enter your E-mail address, as defined above.
* Home Phone Enter the area code and number for your home phone.
Work Phone Enter the area code and number for your work phone.
Cell Phone If you have a cell phone, enter the area code and number.
Address Information
* Country Select the country in which you reside from the drop-down menu.
* Street Address Enter the number and name of the street at which you receive your mail. Leave a space between the number and the name.
Apartment If you live in an apartment, enter the apartment number.
* City/Town/Village Enter the name of the city, town or village in which you live.
State If you live in the United States: Choose the state or territory in which you reside from the drop down menu (territories are at the bottom of the list).
County If you live in New York State: Choose the county in which you reside from the drop down menu.
Zip Code If you live in the United States: Enter your zip code.
Province If you live outside the United States: Choose the Province in which you reside from the drop down menu.
Postal Code If you live outside the United States: Enter your Postal Code.
Alternate Contact
* First Name Enter the first name of a person who the NYSP could contact, if unable to contact you.
* Last Name Enter the contact's last name.
* Contact's Phone Number Enter the area code and the contact's phone number.

Note: This phone number cannot be the same as your home telephone number.

Ethnic Background and Gender
Ethnicity Using the drop down menu, select that which is closest to your ethnic background.
Race Using the drop down menu, select that which is closest to your race.
Gender Indicate your gender.

* Highest Level Achieved Using the drop down menu, select the highest level of education you will have attained as of Sep 8, 2013.
* College Credits Enter the total number of college credits that you have obtained from an accredited college.

Note: You are not required to enter total college credits if you have an undergraduate (BS/BA) or post-graduate degree.

Police Training
* Police Training Indicate whether you have completed a New York State Certified Basic Police Officer Training Course (meaning you successfully completed another police officer training academy) in New York State. Corrections Officer Training does not apply.

Note: Applicants who have completed the Certified Basic Police Officer Training Course may have 30 of the 60 college credits requirement waived.

Test Site Requested
* Test Area Indicate the test area in which you prefer to take the examination.
* Test Center Indicate the test center in which you prefer to take the examination.

Note: The New York State Police reserves the right to change applicant test centers.

Recruitment Source
* First Introduction Using the drop down menu, select a definition that best describes how or where you first learned about employment opportunities with the New York State Police.
* Description Enter a brief description to further identify how you learned about the upcoming exam. For example, if you saw an advertisement in a magazine, enter the name of the magazine; or if you learned about the upcoming exam from an employee of the New York State Police, enter the person's name.
Military Record
* Served? Yes / No Indicate whether you have ever served in the U.S. Armed Forces on a full-time active duty basis.

If you checked yes, complete the rest of this section - all fields are required (*).

If you checked no, go to the "Review and Affirmation" section.

* Currently Serving Indicate whether you are currently on active duty.
* Dates of Service Enter the dates of service by filling out the information below, then click on the add button.
  • * Military Branch
    Using the drop down menu, select the branch in which you served.

    U.S. Armed Forces includes: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and the Reserves/National Guard of each branch.

    Reserves/National Guard qualify only when in the service of the United States under USC Title 10, pursuant to call as provided by law on a full-time active duty basis, other than active duty for training purposes.

  • *Date Entered
    Click on the calendar icon, select date that you entered military service - or type in the date in mm/dd/yyyy format.

  • * Date Discharged
    Click on the calendar icon, select date that you were or anticipate being discharged from military service - or type in the date in mm/dd/yyyy format.

  • * Type of Discharge
    Select the type of discharge you received or expect to receive from the drop-down menu.

Note: You can enter multiple dates of service by clicking on the add another branch link and repeating the process above

Veteran's Preference Credits
Type of Service Indicate if you are currently serving in the Armed Forces on full-time active duty OR if you served in one of the hostilities listed by checking the appropriate box.
Disabled Indicate, by clicking on either the yes or no button, whether you do or do not qualify as a disabled veteran who is currently receiving payments from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for a service connected disability rated at 10% or more.
Note: A War Time or Disabled Veteran may be eligible to have extra credits added to his/her passing score on the Entrance Examination for NYS Trooper. To have these extra credits added to your exam score, you must complete this section. These credits can be used only once for any permanent government employment in New York State.

If you do claim the extra credits at this time, you will still have the option of waiving them later. If you score well enough on the examination to be reached for further processing without the use of the extra credits you may waive the credits at that time and reserve them for other New York State government employment or for a New York State Police promotional examination.

  • Enter Credit Card Number (16 digits with no spaces)
  • Using drop-down menus, select Expiration Month and Year
  • Enter the 3-digit CVV2 (Credit card Verification Value) Code.
* CVV2 Code: What is it and where do I find it? Credit Card CVV2 Code Location The CVV2 Code is found on the back of your credit card within the "signature bar" immediately after the last 4-digits of your credit card account number.

The CVV2 Code is used to validate the credit card number and provides an additional level of protection against credit card fraud.

Final Check
Credit Card Information Make sure the name and address you have entered match your credit card statement information.
* Process Payment Click the "Process Payment" button and your credit card account will be charged $20.00. This exam application fee is non-refundable.

Your "Payment Confirmation and Admission Notice" will appear on screen.

  • If you are able to print, print the Payment Confirmation and Admission Notice and bring it with you to the test center.

  • If, for any reason, you are unable to print the Admission Notice/Confirmation, do not reapply:

    1. Write down your test center location, date and time.
    2. Contact the Exam Detail at 518-485-0855 the next business day and verify that you are on the test center roster.
Notes:
  • If you "Cancel" the affirmation or do not complete the online payment process, your application for the New York State Police Trooper Examination will not be complete and you will not be scheduled to take the examination.

  • If you have questions concerning duplicate charges on your credit card for the exam application, please contact the Exam Detail at 518-485-0855 and they will be able to credit your account.

NYSP Trooper Application Information - Update
Change your test location, date and time... Click on the Change your test location, date and time...link and you will go to the Update Session page, choose your new Test Area and/or Test Site from the drop down menus
  • If you click on Continue. Your test information will be changed and you will be brought back to the Update Information page.
  • If you click on Cancel, your test location information will not be changed, you will be brought back to the Update Information page.
Print your admission ticket... Click on the Print your admission ticket... link to be taken to your admission ticket.

Note: In order to participate in the examination, you must present this admission ticket at the examination site.
