Duties & Responsibilities:The Information Technology Specialist 3, SG-23, assigned to the New York State Police Audit and Compliance Unit will perform or assist in performing the agency technical and support functions/activities related to New York State Police Criminal Justice Information Service (CJIS) responsibilities. This position is a supervisory position and will be the first level supervisor for the Information Technology Specialist 1, SG-14, assigned to the CJIS Section.

The Information Technology Specialist 3 will supervise and perform agency technical and program support activities related to maintenance, security, customer support, project support and business/systems analysis.


Tests and maintains end user enterprise hardware and software.

Oversees and performs entry of Job Control Language scripts to initiate production runs, and running of utility programs to identify, analyze, and solve customer requests regarding criminal justice related investigations.

Implements enterprise and CJIS information security procedures and protocols by ensuring customer agencies are complying with CJIS policies and standards as well as other mandatory regulations.

Participates in the testing of applications such as developing test plans, test conditions, and validation testing.

Oversees and participates as a second level support team member for various New York State Police applications as well as other state agency applications.

May supervise or perform business/systems analysis and design activities and meets with users to gather requirements.

May perform various design activities such as creating program specifications, work flow diagrams or structure charts, and logical data models.

Oversees and performs audit searches by running utility programs for legal and FOIL requests; which includes meeting with customers, legal personnel and law enforcement agencies to ensure proper protocols are followed and information is secure to be released.

Participates in managing and creating end user accounts for various applications managed by the New York State Police and other state agencies.

May assist in providing training of outside law enforcement agencies regarding training of New York State Police applications, including their use and applicable usage and security policies.
Minimum and/or Preferred Qualifications:A bachelor's or higher level degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science AND two years of experience in the following computer related areas: network, server, storage, and systems management; telecommunications, IT customer support and training; computer installation, diagnosis, and repair; technical writing; computer security; knowledge management; database administration, design, and management; internet/intranet development, design, and maintenance; information technology project management; design and development of geographic information systems or computer aided drafting applications; computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing;

OR a bachelor's or higher level degree in any field AND three years of experience in computer related areas as described above;

OR an associate's degree with 15 semester credit hours in a computer science field AND four years of experience in computer related areas as described above;

OR five years of experience in computer related areas as described above.
Additional Comments:Starting Salary: $71,847.00.
