Duties & Responsibilities:Supervisors Forensic Services (DNA) are responsible for the administration of the technical and scientific functions of all forensic analysis in DNA Casework, Serology and the DNA Databank including supervision of testing procedures and reports of findings; technical problem solving and analytical methods; and for the oversight of training, quality assurance, safety and proficiency testing.


Responsible for administration of the technical and scientific operations of all forensic analyses in their designated specialty, including supervision of a team of Forensic Scientists and Senior Laboratory Technicians in forensic laboratory procedures and the preparation of reports of forensic findings.

Responsible for technical problem solving of analytical methods and for the oversight of training, quality assurance, safety and proficiency testing in the laboratory.

Provide continuing education programs and serve as a resource person for Investigators, Evidence Technicians and other law enforcement personnel.

Consult with the Quality Assurance Coordinator regarding laboratory quality issues and accreditation matters.

Perform forensic analysis of the most complex cases.
Minimum and/or Preferred Qualifications:A Master's Degree in a Natural or Physical Science, Administration (e.g. Public Administration, Business Administration or Criminal Justice) or Computer Science;


Successful completion of a combination of graduate and undergraduate course work covering the subject areas of biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology as well as statistics and/or population genetics as it applies to forensic DNA analysis;


A minimum of four (4) years satisfactory experience performing the duties of a Forensic Scientist in the Biological Sciences Unit or its equivalent in another laboratory;


Qualification or eligibility to become qualified as an expert witness in forensic DNA testing protocols and theory.


Fifteen (15) years of satisfactory experience performing the duties of a Forensic Scientist or its equivalent in another laboratory may be considered as a substitute for a Master's Degree.

Additional Comments:Starting Salary: $79,849.00.

This position does not require that the candidate has taken and passed a NYS Civil Service examination, or currently holds a qualifying position within the NYS Civil Service System. This position will be filled through a resume review and interview process.
