Duties & Responsibilities:Provide administrative support. Open, review, sort and distribute incoming correspondence in accordance with current assignments. Appropriate tickler system will be maintained.

Answer telephone, respond to questions concerning State Police policy and procedures or refer calls to appropriate staff to answer technical policy questions.

Prepare responses to letters, type statements, personnel complaints, investigation reports and inspection reports and work papers. Review outgoing correspondence for proper format, factual correctness, grammatical errors and misspellings.

Schedule meetings and maintain calendar for the Assistant Deputy Superintendents and Staff Inspectors.

Design, set up and maintain files. This will include electronic files of correspondence documents. As new programs are generated, the individual will be responsible for creating new filing systems and handle new items.

Travel may be necessary to assist in sensitive investigations. Overtime may also be necessary in accordance with workload.
Minimum and/or Preferred Qualifications:One (1) year permanent service as a New York State employee with one (1) year service in a title allocated SG-6 or higher.

Must have appropriate clerical skills, knowledge of Division policies, and proper office procedure.

Must be proficient in the operation of personal computers and various software including word processing and related database programs.

Must successfully pass transcription and typing proficiency tests.
Additional Comments:Starting Salary: $40,586.00

A typing performance test will be required for those interested employees outside of the Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) title series.
