Duties & Responsibilities: The Payroll Examiner 2 will assist the Payroll Examiner 4 with the supervision, preparation and review of bi-weekly and special payrolls. Under rules and regulations issued by the Office of the State Comptroller, the Department of Civil Service, sections of the State Finance Law, and Contractual Agreements, the incumbent will assist in the determination of issues concerned with salaries, lump sum payments, deductions, and other factors which affect employee payrolls.

Serve as the principal assistant to the Payroll Examiner 4.

Insure that all payroll documents are received and processed and that all payrolls are prepared timely and accurately, and in compliance with Division and Office of the State Comptroller rules and regulations. Coordinate and direct all unit activity that results in the processing of payroll transactions.

Assist in the computation and certification of salaries, salary changes, deductions or additions.

Supervise the maintenance of a variety of payroll records and reports. Prepare certain payroll reports on a regular basis and others as requested.

Interpret and explain new salary provisions and payroll procedures to subordinate staff and other agency employees.

Resolve problems that are identified involving salary and/or deduction transactions. Follow up on all correction processing.

Communicate frequently with representatives of the Office of the State Comptroller for the purpose of identifying and clarifying procedural requirements and for resolving discrepancies in procedures and interpretations.

Assist in the supervision of the clerical staff assigned to the unit.

Work within the PAYSERV system, entering payroll transactions.
Minimum and/or Preferred Qualifications: At least 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, with courses completed in accounting, math, and/or business.


Two years of permanent service in a Calculations Clerk or related position allocated to SG-6 or higher.
Additional Comments: Starting Salary: $46,697.00.
